課程概述

Please bring questions on material that you do not understand to class or to my office hours. Come to class ready to engage actively with the readings and be prepared to apply what you are learning to your own experiences with language in everyday settings.

Besides attendance and participation, there will be response papers, posting of discussion questions, (at least) 5 in-class presentations, and a final written essay.

1) Response Papers: Five response papers (7-10 double-spaced pages) will be due in Week 3, Week6, Week 9, Week 12 and Week 15. Each response paper will consist of 5 points. Students will select at least 3 articles or a book that we have read so far to critically review these texts.

2) Discussion Questions: Students will be expected to compose discussion questions to the weekly readings and post them to a Google online discussion group by 11pm the day before each class. The instructor will check and read your discussion questions and incorporate them into the class discussions. Each student will need to post their discussion questions at least 10 times during the semester. No late questions will be given credit.

3) In-Class Presentations: Students will be asked to choose specific course readings and give presentations in class.

4) Final Paper: (at least 18 double-spaced pages). The essay will require an extended analysis of the topic discussed in class or that students present in class. The essay will be due in the final exam week.

Note on Academic Integrity
All students must inform themselves of the university’s policy on integrity. In addition, students who plagiarize materials from books articles or the internet will receive a zero for that assignment.
